Fleetwood on the Ball at Dagenham

David Ball grabbed the only goal as promotion-chasing Fleetwood ran out 1-0 winners at Dagenham.

The visitors bossed the first half but could not find a way past the Daggers, Jeff Hughes coming closest but his shot was too tame to trouble Chris Lewington having been slipped through by Antoni Sarcevic.

Dagenham lost the services of new loan signing Dominic Samuel to injury, the Reading striker stretchered off after just 30 minutes.

But they had a lively outlet in Zavon Hines, who could have given the home side the lead just after the interval, flashing a shot across the face of Scott Davies' goal.

Scott Doe's header could easily have crept past the Fleetwood 'keeper in a second-half Daggers resurgence.

A mistake from Alan Goodall almost allowed Rhys Murphy the chance to extend his impressive tally for the season, Nathan Pond with a last-ditch challenge to rescue the visitors.

And Fleetwood punished Wayne Burnett's side with their first meaningful attack of the second half.

Sarcevic fed Conor McLaughlin down the right and his low pass found Ball, who turned and fired past Lewington, with the goalkeeper's fingertips not enough to keep it out.

Dagenham thought they had bagged an equaliser with a minute remaining, Murphy beating Davies but Fleetwood skipper Mark Roberts hooked the ball off the goal-line.
