Pirates pile misery on desperate Daggers
Second-half goals from Joe Anyinsah and Matt Harrold handed Bristol Rovers a comfortable 2-0 victory at home to Dagenham & Redbridge.
Anyinsah broke the deadlock five minutes after the break, volleying in from close range after Scott McGleish's shot following a corner had been blocked.
Harrold duly wrapped up the points from the penalty spot in the closing minutes after he had been fouled by Daggers defender Abu Ogogo, inflicting a 10th defeat in 11 league games on the visitors.
Struggling Dagenham barely managed a worthwhile shot and should have been buried long before Harrold's coolly placed spot-kick.
Rovers ought to have been ahead by the break. Only Harrold will know how he failed to connect properly with Danny Woodards' header across the six-yard box after 19 minutes.
Four minutes later Matt Gill's fierce shot from a narrow angle was tipped over by Dagenham goalkeeper Chris Lewington, who did even better on the half hour to keep out a close-range shot from Mustapha Carayol.
Anyinsah only connected with thin air when Harrold's header set up a volleying chance after 39 minutes, while the visitors' only threat came a minute later when Oliver Lee beat Cian Bolger on the byline but Craig Stanley got back to make a saving challenge.
