Burton Albion are still without a Saturday home League win, but were relieved to escape with a point.

Dagenham & Redbridge completely dominated the game and but for some heroic defending and a defiant display by goalkeeper Matt Duke, Nigel Clough's men would have sunk to a heavy defeat.

The Daggers signalled their intentions as early as the fifth minute when a sweet move ended with John McGrath firing inches wide from the edge of the area.

In a swift response, Burton saw a Paul Talbot shot blocked on the edge of the area, but that amounted to the home team's only goal attempt of the first half.

Duke had to be at his best in the 17th minute when he kept out Junior McDougald's attempted chip and then quickly recovered to palm the loose ball away from Gary Fletcher.

Four minutes later the Burton keeper had to dive full length to push a curling free-kick from McGrath away for a corner.

Burton negotiated the remainder of the first half with relative ease, but their defence was overworked again after the interval.

Fletcher hooked a shot too high after clever work by McDougald who was then brought down outside the area by Duke, who was perhaps fortunate to escape with a yellow card.

It was just as well for Burton that Duke stayed on the pitch because he held the key to their survival with three more high-class saves.

In the 64th minute he pushed a McGrath shot away for a corner and a minute later saved at point-blank range to deny Fletcher.

Dagenham did everything but score in the final 20 minutes of non-stop pressure with Duke showing brilliant reflexes to deny Danny Shipp.
