Robins up and running

Goals either side of half-time handed Cheltenham a winning start to their npower League Two campaign as Dagenham & Redbridge were beaten 2-0 at Whaddon Road.

Shaun Harrad and Jermaine McGlashan were on target for the home side to maintain their unbeaten record against the Daggers.

McGlashan and Chris Zebroski missed early chances for the Robins before Cheltenham goalkeeper Scott Brown was forced into a decent full-length save from Medy Elito.

As half-time approached, Sam Deering latched on to a Zebroski pass but shot against the outside of the Dagenham upright.

The breakthrough finally came a minute into injury time at the end of the first half when Deering collected a Sido Jombati pass before firing in a low cross which Harrad prodded home on his league debut for the club.

Four minutes into the second half and the Robins doubled their lead with a stunning McGlashan strike. The tricky winger collected the ball 25 yards out before rifling his effort beyond Chris Lewington in the Daggers goal.

The visitors offered little in the second period but almost netted a consolation 10 minutes from time when Michael Spillane pounced at a corner only to fire wide.
