Dagenham & Redbridge claimed a win by the narrowest of margins as they won an end to end match in what was a tale of two goalkeepers.
The home side had Tony Roberts to thank after a miraculous display of shot stopping particularly late in the second half after Hereford had thrown everything at the Daggers.
The Bulls started brightly and Paul Parry came close to giving them the lead after just ten minutes when he arrived at the near post only for Lee Matthews to block, but Parry recovered quickly and Roberts was forced to make the first of a series of great close-range saves.
Roberts blocked another Parry effort on 20 minutes and from the follow up Danny Williams skewed his shot out towards the right flank.
Daggers did begin to assert themselves as the half wore on, Junior McDougald curled a shot low past the post and Steve West headed just wide before he gave the home side a 34th minute lead as McDougald flicked the ball on and West waited for it to bounce before launching a half-volley into the top corner from 25 yards.
Daggers looked like they might extend their lead early in the second half. West flicked on from McDougald this time, whose shot was blocked by the legs of Matt Baker and from the corner Baker then made an astounding tip over from Matthews' close-range header.
Controversially Andy Tretton was sent off for the visitors following a linesmanÂ’s flag in the 58th minute as he was deemed to have brought down McDougald, but undeterred Hereford poured forward.
Roberts denied Parry at the near post from John Grant and then somehow from Parry's close-range header with nine minutes remaining.
Matt Clarke also fired over from close range, but the Daggers somehow held on and even Daggers boss Garry Hill wondered how the game stayed at just 1-0
