Dagenham & Redbridge's unbeaten start to the season came to an abrupt end at home to bottom of the table Scarborough.
In a poor advert for Conference football, the visitor's central defensive partnership of Steve Baker and Paul Foot was outstanding.
Scarborough wrapped the game up with two goals in the final five minutes to return to North Yorkshire with their first victory of the season.
The Daggers had the better of the opening exchanges and Jake Leberl shot just over the bar early on after Lee Goodwin headed the ball into his path. Moments later Boro captain Baker produced a fine tackle to stop Chris Moore going through on goal.
When the Daggers did get past the defence they found Leigh Walker, the Boro keeper in great form. First he tipped over Anwar Uddin's header from a Paul Bruce corner then he managed to get his body behind a Bruce shot.
The Daggers turned up the pressure in the second period but still couldn't find a way through. For all their second-half possession the home side only troubled Walker on one occasion and it was Tony Roberts in the home goal that produced the half's best saves.
A great double save kept out close range strikes by Kevin Nicholson who then shot wide with his third attempt. With five minutes remaining the visitors broke from a Daggers corner and Ian Clark's cross was volleyed home by Jake Speight.
The Daggers thought they should have had a penalty with their next attack when Tresor Kandol was pulled down but the referee, Mr Creighton waived away their appeals. As the Daggers desperately tried to rescue a point Walker acrobatically managed to tip Paul Benson's header over the bar.
Three minutes into injury time the Seadogs ensured all three points when Sam Saunders lost the ball in an attacking area and a long ball over the Daggers defence found Brian Wake who fired home a low drive for his first of the season.
