Christian Lee's early strike helped Halifax bounce back to winning ways after being dumped out of the FA Cup last week.

Manager Chris Wilder had demanded his players improve and further first-half goals from Kevin Sandwith and debutant Jamie McCombe had the three points in the bag by half time.

The Shaymen got off to a flyer when on their first foray forward Lee rifled home.

Jake Sagere collected the ball on the byline, turned and quickly struck a low cross for Lee to power past Dagenham & Redbridge keeper Tony Roberts.

The home side immediately took control and began to boss the middle of the park. It wasn't long before their early lead was doubled.

A flowing move of intricate one-touch attacking forced Daggers full-back Ashley Vickers to handle just outside his own area.

Sandwith thumped home his first of the season direct from the free-kick with a low drive that sneaked just a foot inside the post.

Dagenham did force their way back into the game for a spell and came close when Steve Watts' volley forced a stunning reaction save from Halifax keeper Mark Cartwright.

But Halifax added to the visitors' woes when McCombe, on a month's loan from Scunthorpe, glanced a header past a rooted Roberts from a Craig Midgley free-kick.

The Daggers, who battled back from three down last season against Halifax at The Shay to earn a draw, returned for the second 45 with an added urgency.

But a substantial spell of possession brought little in the way of openings and a solid and confident Halifax back four dug their heels in.

Halifax boss Chris Wilder said he was delighted with the response his players gave after their disappointing Cup exit away at Northwich last Sunday.

"I am delighted because they showed such a good reaction," he said. "A lot of people including myself had put a lot of emphasis on the Cup. To get beaten last week really hurt.

"But the beauty of football is you can bounce back and prove people wrong and we have done that today." Disappointing Dagenham & Redbridge manager Garry Hill warned that things must improve or his side would begin to slip towards the relegation dogfight.

He said: "It is not ideal at the moment. We need to build a consistency around our performances.

"It is my job to stand up and be counted and get the best out of the players. Today we were disappointing and I feel for the fans, who have a four and a half hour trip ahead of them."
