Battling Dagenham & Redbridge became only the second side to avoid defeat at Edgar Street this season with a well-organised display against the Nationwide Conference leaders.
The Bulls rarely touched the heights of their previous displays this season and created few real openings against a strong Daggers defence.
But another large crowd, 4,325, thought they were about to see Hereford's sixth win in seven outings at home this season when Ben Smith fired the home side in front on 54 minutes only for centre-back Dean Beckwith to profit from some slack defending to blast home the equaliser 11 minutes later.
Chances were very much a premium in the first period which was full of scrappy play.
Dagenham's best chance arrived after 20 minutes when Alex Meechan miscued a Mark Bentley cross wide from a good position.
For Hereford, Michael Rose drove wide from 25 yards as the home side ended the half in encouraging fashion.
Meechan failed twice from close range as the second half opened but then a long pass from Rose was touched down by David Brown into the path of Smith and he finished well from 15 yards.
Brown might have added a second when he volleyed Steve Guinan's cross wide just afterwards but then at the other end the ball reached Lenny Piper following a corner and although Smith blocked his shot on the goalline, Beckwith followed up to level.
Defences were well on top for the rest of the game with the best opening falling to Paul Parry whose effort was well blocked by the advancing James Pullen in the visitors' goal.
