Scott strike sees Daggers off bottom

Josh Scott gave Dagenham a vital 2-1 victory at Morecambe to aid their League Two survival hopes.

Scott, who scored a hat-trick when the Daggers destroyed the Shrimps in the play-offs two seasons ago, returned to haunt the Lancashire club with a header 18 minutes from time to give his side a much-needed three points that lifted them off the bottom of the table.

Dagenham were the better side and went a goal up after 12 minutes with an excellent strike from midfielder Medy Elito. The Shrimps' defence cleared a Ben Reeves corner to the edge of the box and Elito latched on to the loose ball to curl a fine effort past Barry Roche's left hand.

The Daggers went close to a second goal six minutes later when Reeves moved on to another loose ball and drilled a shot inches wide of the left-hand post with Roche well beaten.

After a poor start the Shrimps fired their way back into the game with another top quality goal from Kevin Ellison after 26 minutes. Garry Hunter chipped the ball to the edge of the Dagenham box, Jordan Burrow headed down and Ellison curled a great right-foot finish past Jonathan Bond.

Mark Arber was denied a third goal for the Daggers when his header was cleared off the line by Ellison and debutant Jack Redshaw went close with a smart shot that forced the save from Bond in the final minutes of the game but John Still's side held on for a deserved win.
