Southport's new manager Mike Walsh must still be gathering his breath after watching his side win a dramatic FA Trophy fourth round replay with Dagenham & Redbridge after a penalty shoot-out.
Southport, who earned a goal-less draw in the first meeting at Dagenham on Saturday looked to be heading for defeat as they trailed, led 2-1 with injury time in normal time being played.
But substitute Peter Thomson snatched a draw for the home side, who went on to convert four of their five penalties while Dagenham failed to convert two of theirs.
An exciting first half or normal time saw both sides go close several times before Steve Pickford snatched the lead for Southport with less than a minute remaining.
However Dagenham, who played some excellent football, equalised through Lee Mathews in the 54th minute and then snatched what looked like the vital goal through Paul Terry in the 67th minute.
But then came substitute Thomson's dramatic equaliser to set up the extra time.
Neither side scored in the additional half a hour and the outcome was decided in the shoot-out.
In that Steve Whitehall, Chris Lane, Thomson and Pickford all found the net with Neil Gibson having his spot kick saved by Paul Gothard, But the two vital misses for Dagenham were by substitute Danny Hill and Tim Cole and they must have been bitterly disappointed after playing so well for most of the time.
