Thurrock 2 Dagenham 1

Once again Dagenham were involved in an FA Cup upset but sadly this time they were on the wrong end of it.

Tresor Kandol had the first shot on target for Thurrock as he let rip from the left-hand corner of the box and the ball went curling towards the far post. Tony Roberts then pulled off one of the saves that have made him a legend in non-league FA Cup history, tipping the ball away for a corner.

The Daggers failed to get the ball down and play as well as they have been of late and was to get even worse minutes later as the clock struck the half hour mark.

Chris Piper's booking gave away a free-kick on the left wing and Paul Linger stepped to swing it in. Cliff Akurang flew in at the far post and put Thurrock 1-0 up.

The Daggers surrounded the referee calling for a handball decision but Mr Miller pointed to the centre circle.

The non-league cup kings came back into the game a minute before the break, Tarkan Mustafa threaded the ball through for Shipp, and his handy work took him round the Thurrock defence to shoot the Daggers level from close range.

But a minute the other side of half time however and Thurrock were back in front, when Kris Lee sent through Kandol and with his first touch he rifled the ball into the far corner.

As the Daggers fought their way back into the game Steve Watts saw Paul Gothard save his low drive with his feet and his bullet header with a flying leap.

Watts was again denied 15 minutes from time, and as his flicked header blazed over the bar it looked as though the Daggers were running out of time and luck.

There was just enough time for one last throw of the dice as Alex Meechan tried to take the tie back to Victoria Road but Gothard was equal to his soft effort and so the Daggers were condemned to defeat before their FA Cup party had even begun.
